Orm Finnendahl studierte Komposition und Musikwissenschaft in Berlin, Stuttgart, und Los Angeles; 1991-95 künstlerischer Leiter der Kreuzberger Klangwerkstatt. Unterrichtstätigkeit am elektronischen Studio der TU Berlin, dem Institut für Neue Musik,
HdK Berlin, und dem Institut für Computermusik und elektronische Medien (ICEM) der Folkwang-Hochschule, Essen. Verschiedene Stipendien und Preise, u.a. der Busoni-Preis der Akademie der Künste 1999; Anerkennungspreis der Ars Electronica, Linz 2001; 1. Preis beim CynetArt Award 2001 in Dresden.

Im letzten jahr nahm Finnendahl an dem Projekt "Real-Time and Presence: Composition of Audio-Visual Environments" (Tans-Akademie Hellerau) teil und entwickelte, zusammen mit Sher Doruff und Johannes Birringer, die interaktive Telepräsenz Installation "East by West," die im Juli 2002 im Festspielhaus Hellerau, Dresden, Premiere hatte. Die Ausstellung wurde im Februar-März auf dem Dutch Electronic Arts Festival "Data Knitting" von der V_2 Organization in Rotterdam, Holland, in einer neuen Version ausgestellt.

Finnendahl, Doruff, and Birringer, together with Arjen Keesmaat (WAAG) plan to develop the concept and architecture of "East by West" further, in order to test the possibility of implementing it, collaboratively with the other members of the Interaktions-Labor, on site at the Coal Mine Göttelborn.

Orm Finnendahl studied music and composition in Berlin, Stuttgart, and Los Angeles. 1991-95 he was artistic director of the Klangwerkstatt Kreuzberg. Teaching positions include the electronic music studio at TU Berlin, the Institute for New Music at Hdk Berlin, and ICEM at Folkwang-Hochschule, Essen. He received various scholarships and awards, including the Busoni Award (1999), a merit award at ars electronica (2001), and the first prize at CYNETart in Dresden (2001).

 

Last year Finnendahl participated in the project "Real-Time and Presence: Composition of Audio-Visual Environments" (Tans-Akademie Hellerau) and developed, together witrh Sher Doruff and Johannes Birringer, the interactive telepresence installation "East by West," which was first shown at the Festspielhaus Hellerau, Dresden, in July 2002. A new version of this installation was exhibited in February-March at the Dutch Electronic Arts Festival "Data Knitting", presented by V_2 Organization in Rotterdam, Holland.

 

Finnendahl, Doruff, Arjen Keesmaat and Birringer plan to work on an extended version of "East by West" that could be implemented collaboratively, with other components of the Interaktions-Labor, at the Coal Mine Gottelborn.
